The Substance P project presents a joint exhibition of Hynk Alt and Tomáš Roubal, which does not strive for a closed thematic unit, but rather for an insight into the current state of their artistic thinking and the formal elaboration of various, albeit mutually touching, themes (post-digital infrastructures, "digital fatigue", the fall of global connectivity, etc.). Substance P is a signaling substance of the nervous system involved in the transmission of pain, stress and affective excitement, which in the context of the current digital reality becomes a metaphor for the permanently excited nervous system of late capitalist society, continuously stimulated by algorithms, social networks, information overload and an accelerated attention economy. The exhibition does not adopt this motif as a scientific illustration, but as a conceptual figure of the contemporary world, whose infrastructures — digital, visual, logistical and psychological — no longer produce only connection, speed and accessibility, but also fatigue, overstrain and not only latent but even constant depressing pain.

The Substance P project is a joint exhibition by Hynek Alt and Tomáš Roubal that does not aim to present a self-contained thematic whole, but rather to offer a glimpse into the current state of their artistic thinking and the formal development of various, albeit interrelated, themes (post-digital infrastructure, “digital fatigue,” the decline of global connectivity, etc.). Substance P is a neurotransmitter involved in the transmission of pain, stress, and emotional arousal, which, in the context of contemporary digital reality, becomes a metaphor for the permanently excited nervous system of late-capitalist society, continuously stimulated by algorithms, social networks, information overload, and the accelerated attention economy. The exhibition does not treat this motif as a scientific illustration, but as a conceptual figure of the contemporary world, whose infrastructures — digital, visual, logistical, and psychological — no longer produce merely connection, speed, and accessibility, but also fatigue, overload, and not just latent, but outright constant, oppressive pain.
