About event
Who is your favorite artist or artist working with neon? Mine has been an American minimalist sculptor Dan Flavin for many years, but on the occasion of the exhibition of Erik Šille I change my mind and invite you to see why with my own eyes! The visually catchy Neon Art Erik Šille probably waited for his premiere presentation just in Suvenir_galler - so that we do not have to transform the gallery white cube into the image of the commercial space, but on the contrary, they used the existing shop with everything that belongs to him! Neon, as an advertising element, has the opportunity to truly shine in this context in its original function as a eye -catcher and invitation to space and a solitary artwork at the same time.
Šille also works with iconic characters from its author's repertoire or popular culture such as a Babagi dog, a pink panther or a crocodile with two papules. They suddenly suddenly and smile at the full mouth - but they are also a kind of cartoon of emotions, exaggerating positive energy into absurdity. Colored light only underlines the aura of their internal neuroses and distraction. They are solitaires, lonely characters, but they fit into every context in which the electrical outlet is located.
Probably all of us are associated with a different environment, but probably few know that they used them for the first time for the advertising purpose in Paris. I personally know them, in addition to the article of the art, especially from the American television series from the 1980s, Sillem, on the contrary, associate with his memories of visiting stitched streets in Tokyo with the smell of the shoulder, where, like the characters mentioned, usually runs away from his problems. However, all exhibited works are Made in Czech Republic and are looking for a new home with you. Catch Them If You Can. In 2010 he became a laureate of the Tatra Banka Foundation Award, he was twice the award -winning finalist of the VUB Painting of the Year competition and in 2009 he won 1. His works are found in the collections of the Slovak National Gallery, in the collection of the European Parliament and many leading private collectors. He regularly exhibits in Slovakia and abroad. He is a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. It comes from Rožňava, lives and operates in Bratislava. She works as a curator of exhibitions of contemporary art, she is a member of the editorial board of the Flashart CZ/SK and the online newsletter chicken. He writes about art.
