About event
Suzanne Vega, an American singer, songwriter and one of the most important songwriters of her generation, will present at ARŠA+ a cross-section of her career "at your fingertips", including many popular songs, as well as songs from the latest album Flying with Angels, which was released in May 2025 and received a great response from critics.
The media praised the Flying With Angels album, for example Rolling Stone magazine wrote about it: "Four decades after its debut, Suzanne Vega retains her gift of clear reflections and the fragile music to match them... Her voice continues to be full of wisdom and sensitivity". The magazine named the record one of the best albums of 2025. Stereogum noted, "Alternative rock veteran Suzanne Vega continues to make great music... It's no exaggeration to call her a true legend." The Morning Star and The Edinburgh Reporter awarded recent UK performances five stars, while The Scotsman stated: "Suzanne Vega proves she deserves a place alongside the greats Lou Reed, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen." All Music Magazine UK notes: "Forty years on, Suzanne Vega still fascinates... she has lost nothing over the years - her music has matured beautifully." Widely regarded as one of the most important songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega became a leading figure in the folk revival of the early 1980s. The singer accompanied herself on acoustic guitar and sang her own compositions in Greenwich Village clubs, which were referred to as contemporary folk or neo-folk. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed debut album in 1985, she has sold out concerts in many renowned venues around the world. Suzanne Vega is known for her performances that express deep emotion, and her signature "clear, unwavering voice" (Rolling Stone) has been described as "a cool, dry, almost whispery voice like sandpaper" (The Washington Post), while NPR Music magazine noted that she has "created inventive music full of life" throughout her decades-long career.
Her songs bear the stamp of mastery. storytellers who "observe the world with a precise poetic eye" (The New York Times), focus on urban life, ordinary people, and real-world issues. Remarkably clear and effectively expressed, her work is instantly recognizable – still as unique and thoughtful as when her voice first hit the radio more than 40 years ago.
