About event
FREEDOM DESPITE / FREEDOM DESPITE"
📅 When: 21/01/2025 at 18:00
📍 Where: Hybernská Campus, Artivist Lab Gallery
🎨 Duration of the exhibition: 22/01 . – 20 March 2025
👩🎨 Curator: Tamara Moyzes
👩🎨 Artists: Anna Banytiuk, Yuliia Chuienko, Darja Lukyanenko, Heorhii Rublik, Lisa Ulianova, Olena Zahrebina, Bohdana Zaiats
The exhibition "Svoboda navzdory / Freedom Despite" presents the artistic output of Ukrainian students who found support at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts art after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, and also includes the works of Darya Lukyanenko, a graduate of UMPRUM, who has already established herself in the Czech environment before the war. This project represents a platform for the visual articulation of personal narratives of war and exile, thereby opening up space for a broader discussion of the effects of armed conflict on an individual and collective level.
An integral part of the exhibition is also the graphic novel "When it started", a collective work created by sixteen Ukrainian students of AVU, including five exhibiting artists. Each of them comes from a different region of Ukraine and often has a completely different cultural and creative experience. What unites them is the war and its effects, the need to share their story and the effort to show the importance of personal experience. The book is a reflection of their thoughts, current state and mood. Symbolic stories alternate with utopian images and those that very realistically describe one's own destiny. There is often humor and exaggeration and an optimistic view of the future.
👉 WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN
After the opening, at 6:30 p.m., there will be a workshop for children led by the artist Olena Zahrebina, who is more than fifteen years old experience as a stage designer and has worked for a long time with the Chernihiv Art Museum as an independent curator. The workshop will offer children the opportunity to create and express their own concept of freedom and hope through art.
👉 Come support Ukrainian artists and engage in a dialogue about war, exile and the role of art in crisis situations.
We look forward to seeing you! ✨
