Sylvie Schenk – In Erwartung eines Glücks

Irène, a German-French writer, is admitted to hospital with a suspected stroke. Soon the all-clear is given, but as a precaution she has to stay in the clinic for a while and settles in there. She describes her new everyday life between the hospital room and examinations ironically and sarcastically. She remembers her husband, who recently died, she meets her roommate Ada, a young Muslim woman, and a mysterious patient whom she calls the “Frogman” and who reminds her of Houellebecq. In her confrontation with him, she thinks about her own writing, about life and death. Hardly anyone can talk about it with such ease as Sylvie Schenk.
