About event

Design archives are in danger of disappearing into the waste bin. Designers share their stories. Think about the future. Free admission - RSVP required.

The Louis Kalff Institute (LKI) and the Design and Digital Culture Archives Network (NADD) are organizing the symposium The Future of Design Archives during Dutch Design Week. Because archives are living histories that contain innovation, creativity and identity. Archives contain the stories, ideas and tools that shape design culture in the Netherlands to this day. left;">

We will talk to Bas Pruyser, the designer of the most famous waste bin in the Netherlands, about what moved him to recently throw away a large part of his archive. Furthermore, designers Ineke Hans and Floris Hovers talk about the challenges they experience in preserving years of design processes. But also about how design archives can be kept future-proof and what problems are involved.

In addition, Timo de Rijk (director of Design Museum Den Bosch) speaks with designer Miriam van der Lubbe and Aukje Bolle (business director of the Nieuwe Instituut) about the importance of a heritage policy for design archives. We wonder how archives contribute to the design of the future, but especially why it is sometimes difficult to properly preserve these valuable sources of information.
