About event
On Monday, December 2, 2024 The Retelling Symposium takes place in Pakhuis de Zwijger.
Retelling is something you do together: sharing experiences, listening, empathizing and learning. At Arcam, 2024 was all about making Amsterdam's architectural history in North, New West and South East more polyphonic. We focused on the interaction between architectural history, housing policy (the planned city) and housing protest (the lived city).
In this way, Van Eesteren's Expansion Plan becomes richer and fairer through the involvement of female designers and recent housing protests. in Nieuw-West, such as in the Wildemanbuurt. In North, the relationship between garden villages, industry and green areas deserves a new look. Plan Nassuth plays a key role in the Bijlmer, as do the protests of De Gliphoeve in 1972 and the later transformation of flats such as Geldershoofd and Gravenstein.
Retelling requires courage and empathy. On December 2, we proudly present the results and insights, with speakers such as Seada Nourhussen(One World), Cody Hochstenbach strong> (Disused), Femke Kaulingfreks (Wibaut Chair), Josien strong> Pieterse (Framer Framed) and Ellen Tjon A Meeuw (Well Made Productions). In addition, curators Wouter Pocornie, Wouter Stroet, Sophia Holst, Soumeya Baziand < /strong>Tayfun Balçik has done pioneering work. We are also proud of the involvement of the pioneers of the Slavery Museum, Peggy Brandon, John Leerdam, David Brandwagt, and the collaboration with architects, housing associations and (housing) organizations such as Rochdale, Stadgenoot, Time to Access, DOOR, Saksia Oranje, Joke van der Zwaard and strong>Ahmed Oueld Hadj (Dutch Architect).
Designers, policy makers, residents and other stakeholders: come to Pakhuis de Zwijger on December 2 and experience how retellings contribute to better architecture and better commissioning. in the city of today and tomorrow.
