Language: bridge or barrier? 70 years of educational debate on the ABC islands.

On Thursday, April 10, a.s., the Netherlands-Aruba Society is organizing a meeting on education on the ABC Islands in collaboration with the Hague University of Applied Sciences and the Dutch UNESCO Commission. The debate about the language issue has been going on for 70 years. What does it do with the educational opportunities of the children? What should happen to secure the development of the islands?

Education advisor Juana Kibbelaar gives a presentation about her research in the field of the language issue. Students from the Haagse Hogeschool talk about their experiences related to language. Moderator Mitsuï Croes then starts a conversation with panel members Kathleen Ferrier (chairman of the Dutch UNESCO committee), Reinier van Zutphen (National Ombudsman), Glenn Thodé (University of Groningen and former gentlemen Bonaire), Maya Soumah (Public College and with the Zaal Kibbel accessible. Afterwards there is the possibility to talk together and drink something at your own expense in the catering establishment of the Hogeschool (Café West).
