Latest album: "Midnight Crisp"
Takuya Kuroda boldly pushes the boundaries of jazz: jazz, soul, funk , post-bop and hip-hop merge under his trumpet.
The dazzling life of this forty-something Japanese trumpeter never tires of surprising! A musical destiny inspired by his elder trombonist, a fan of big bands, an impeccable academic career spent at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the New School Jazz in New York and already five albums on the clock, we cannot say that Takuya Kuroda is rest on its laurels! It was the soul man José James who put his foot in the door and produced his first album on the Blue Note label “Rising Son”: a gem of groove, jazz, soul and afrobeat. Hyperactive, appreciated by the musicians with whom he records, such as Greg Tardy, Andy Ezrin or Valery Ponomarev's orchestra, he traces his path and builds his reputation as an outstanding accompanist, from hard-bop to hip-hop via soul jazz and improvised music.
A highly respected trumpeter born in Kobe, Japan, Takuya is an avant-garde musician who has developed a unique hybrid sound, blending jazz soul, funk, post-bop, fusion and hip hop music. It was in New York that Takuya met singer José James, with whom he worked on the projects “Blackmagic” and “No Beginning No End”. After graduating, Takuya established himself in the New York jazz scene, performing with bands like Akoya Afrobeat and, in recent years, with DJ Premier's band BADDER (which also includes renowned bassist Brady Watt ). Takuya Kuroda is already incredibly prolific: he has released five albums over the past decade and has built a solid reputation on the international jazz scene.
