About event
“The Cuarteto Rotterdam is rightly considered one of the best European tango ensembles”, “Excellent interaction”, “A great moment of tango”, “The best and most interesting tango music I have heard in a long time”, “This tango quartet of the European Top class inspires” – these are just some of the exuberant press reactions of the past few years.
Her concert activities take her from Paris, Istanbul, Zurich and Amsterdam to Buenos Aires, to perform her music in concert halls, at tango balls and international music and tango festivals to sound. They inspire concert audiences as well as tango dancers and in 2011 they were awarded first prize at the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition (Category VIII. Instrumental groups with bandoneón).
The quartet was founded in 2004 while studying together in Rotterdam (Netherlands) at the “Rotterdam Academy for World Music” (majoring in “Tango”) and named after his “birthplace”. They have lived in Germany since 2007.
For them, tango is passion, virtuosity and power - taking into account the over 100-year history of tango.
Conscious of tradition, they bring the initially happier tangos of “Guardia Vieja” onto the stage with such ease that everyone's legs itch. They present the golden age of tango of the “40s” in a compact quartet sound with the highlights of the large orchestras à la Di Sarli, Troilo, D’Arienzo, Pugliese or Salgán. They feel so connected to Astor Piazzolla's demanding Tango Nuevo that the deeply felt melancholy and complexity of this music can always be felt. And they are also curious - about what's new in tango - because in their search for the tango of the 21st century, they present contemporary Argentine and European tango compositions in their concert and dance program.
The classic one The formation of the quartet with bandoneón, violin, piano and double bass promises a sound experience that moves between tradition and modernity. With its creativity, imagination and experience, the small tango orchestra conjures up a tango world for all kinds of emotions on stage.
