Tarraxinha Open-Level Workshop
Event by: Colleen Carris
Location: Shabu Studios, Northeast Glisan Street 6055, Portland
About event
Tarraxinha is a dance and music style from Angola, characterized by its vibrant rhythms and energetic movements. It originated in the 20th century and has evolved to incorporate elements from various musical genres, including traditional Angolan music and contemporary influences.
In terms of rhythm, Tarraxinha is typically marked by a strong, syncopated beat that encourages improvisation and expressive movement. The dance often involves a close connection between partners, highlighting both sensuality and playfulness.
This workshop will focus 75% on solo drills and technique work to unlock our hips and learn the different isolations as well as combination movements that can be applied in partnerwork.
This workshop is ideal for anyone who wants to work on their own body movement and isolations as well as learn how it applies to other dance styles and improve their connection in partnerwork.
