About event

Folklore, customs, traditional or contemporary art and craft production of Roma from Slovakia. / Folklore, customs, traditional crafts, and modern art handicrafts of the Roma people living in Slovakia.

For the twenty second time, we invite you to get to know Roma culture - the event Te prindžaras amen/Let's get to know each other. It is prepared annually for visitors by the Slovak National Museum in Martin - the Museum of Roma Culture in Slovakia. This year, too, it will be held in the premises of the Museum of the Slovak Village in Jahodnícky háj on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This year will be dedicated primarily to the traditional forms of dance of various groups of Roma living in Slovakia. You will learn about the dance folklore of the Roma from dance teachers and dance lecturers Mgr. Art. Libuše Bachratej, ArtD. and Marie Oláhová. They will show you unique demonstrations of various dances and visitors will have a unique opportunity to learn their basics. The dance choreography will also be performed by the dance component of the Roma folklore ensemble Romka z Detva, one of the longest-running Roma folklore ensembles in Slovakia. For the first time, the Roma folklore groups Romano rat from Ružina and Romane čerhaja from Hrnčiarská Ves will perform at the event. Čhave kokavatar from Kokava nad Rimavicou will perform exceptional singing skills.

We have also prepared a folk music performance by the Bartoš family from Čierne Balog. The folk music of Bartošovci has been preserving and spreading the singing and musical traditions of Horehron for several generations. They are thus continuing the legacy of the exceptional violin virtuoso and primate Július Bartoš – Šuk.

The accompanying program of the event will be dominated by the opening of an exhibition of photographs by the respected Roma journalist and photographer, Mgr. Roman Čonka from Prešov entitled "Roma in art II". Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the life and work of important Roma musicians, singers and actors through photographs. The accompanying program will also include guided tours of the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Roma Culture in Slovakia and all-day creative workshops for children.
