The Art of the Storyteller - with Michael Brown

The very essence and heart of theatre is simple and yet profound: the coming together of storyteller and audience in a shared space, engaging in a collective act of imagining and experiencing. Our modern world, with its hectic pace, media-driven content, and focus on individualized entertainment has separated us from this space and this experience in many ways. What can we rediscover about the shared experience of storytelling, with its ability to bring joy, illumination, inspiration, and insight?

This workshop in performance storytelling will focus on the solo storyteller. Using traditional stories and myths, we will explore vocal skills, movement, performance dynamics, and relationship with the audience to enhance our stories and our telling. Participants are welcome to bring their own stories to work on, and the group will also work on a shared story during the course of the week. The workshop will culminate with an optional public storytelling session at the end of the week.
