About event

Hviezdoslav in English. Hviezdoslav about the war. Sonnets calling for peace. Our past. Our future. What do we want to live now? - And what? ”This sketch of shocking considerations begins with a cycle of thirty -two bloody sonnets by Pavel Országh Hviezdoslav, who speaks prophets not only to the facts and consequences of the First World War, but also to the future times that cannot learn from the past. >

Just for this inability to influence the course of history, we must again amplify Hviezdoslav's appeal against the rabies of the war and thus cleanse it of his abuse in the times of socialism. The Bloody Sonnets is an expressive stage poem about the end of one world and a century of hopes for the emergence of the new one. By distinctive scenic means, original music and relentless English translation of John Minahan, the project depicts the wreckage of ideals and utopia, the horror of biblical dimensions without deities, and also the fate of individuals in the whirlwind of war. Bloody Sonnets is a perforative Mass for the vain illusions of the magnificence of the nations and the silent manifestation of conscious pacifism.
