The Hot Club Berlin the music of Django Reinhardt and his companions in the ZigZag Jazz Club in front of an enthusiastic audience. And last summer we were finally able to celebrate the premiere of the Hot Club Orchestra, which is now going into the next round!
The Hot Club of Berlin is led by Francisco Batista & Thomas Dekas, stylistically experienced guitarists who have already been on stage with the big names of the gypsy jazz world such as Mozes Rosenberg, Paulus Schäfer, Gonzalo Bergara, Sebastien Giniaux. Together with the best hot jazz cats in the city, they now form one of the freshest and most exciting bands in the city with a changing line-up!
The Hot Club Orchestra adapts Django Reinhardt's pieces and other gypsy jazz classics for a multi-member ensemble. Look forward to a very special musical experience and take a journey back in time to the birth of European jazz!
Barcelona-born Gianni Gagliardi is “a rising star in the Brooklyn jazz scene,” as Ron Netsky of the Rochester City Newspaper writes. His unique sound, originality and artistic integrity have allowed him to perform all over the world in a wide variety of settings, from jazz to flamenco with greats such as Al Foster, John Clayton, Dick Oats, Gilad Hekselman or Jordi Rossy. He was a student at Berklee College of Music, the State University of New York, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Conservatoire National Superior de Paris. Gianni is the founder of BCN Jazz Collective, a label and platform for young composers to publish and promote their works. He is in demand as a sideman and leader; his recordings have been highly praised by international critics.
Bastian Duncker was born in Kiel in 1989 and plays various wind instruments, mainly alto and baritone saxophone. 2007-2012 studied at the Jazz Institute Berlin with Peter Weniger, Greg Cohen and Claudio Puntin. In 2012-2013 he was Artist in Residence at “musicmatters” in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Since 2014 he has been an integral part of the house band of the Berlin record label Philophon and an active part of the Berlin jazz scene. He has performed and published with Stella Chiweshe, Gunter Hampel, Hayden Chisholm, Guy One & the Polyversal Souls, Hailu Mergia, John Hollenbeck, Idris Ackamoor & the Pyramids, Alèmayèhu Eshèté, James Wylie, Pain Perdu, Jimi Tenor, Kati Brien, Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester. Concert tours and workshops have taken him to Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Sri Lanka, India, Europe, USA, Canada, among others.
Fritz Moshammer, who lives in Berlin by choice, is a trumpeter and composer with roots in the Rhineland. As a jazz and studio musician, he takes part in a wide range of projects and gives numerous concerts at home and abroad. Fritz Moshammer is currently part of Alvaro Soler's band with concerts all over Europe. He also toured with Mark Forster throughout German-speaking countries for 5 years.
Mark Pringle is a Berlin-based pianist and composer from Great Britain who deals with the meeting of different forms of composed and improvised music. He is a Yamaha Jazz Scholar, winner of the Peter Whittingham Award, nominee for the German Jazz Prize (with LIUN + The Science Fiction Band) and has performed at numerous prominent venues in the UK, Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, Iceland, Finland, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Greece, Sweden, Austria and the Netherlands, including for BBC National Radio.
James Banner is a musician and composer based in Berlin. He performs in a variety of constellations in the fields of jazz, improvised and contemporary music in projects such as James Banner's USINE, Birgitta Flick Quartet and Tilo Weber Quartet: Four Fauns, as well as as a composer for joint projects with artists and collectives such as Stephanie Lamprea and The Arc Project. His music has been supported and presented by the BBC, the PRS Foundation, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Initiative Musik and the Berlin Senate. James is currently co-curator of the monthly residency Practically Married (with Declan Forde) at Berlin's Donau115 and guest lecturer in improvisation at Leeds College of Music.
