About event
The Sixteen is one of the crown jewels of English choral singing. Under the direction of Harry Christophers, the ensemble performs Advent and Christmas music from (very) past and present. From sixteenth-century composers such as Bernadino de Ribera and Tomás Luis de Victoria, a bridge is built to contemporary composers such as Reena Esmail and Eric Whitacre.
In a wonderful mix of Gregorian chant, polyphonic church Christmas music and folk Christmas carols The Sixteen sings about the birth of Jesus and pays tribute to his mother Mary. World-famous songs such as the renowned Salve Regina and Ave Maria are combined with lesser-known, but equally beautiful pearls. The Sixteen is at home in more than five centuries of music and performs it all with equal passion. and intensity. You won't find many better ways to get into the Christmas spirit musically than with this top English ensemble.
