For The Sophs, everything begins in September 2024, when singer Ethan Ramons is the first Sent demos to his favorite labels - among the recipients: the indie giant Rough Trade. So far, not an unusual approach in today's music industry. However, even old music industry luminaries don't hear every day that Ramon received feedback from Rough Trade founders Geoff Travis and Jeannette Lee personally after just one day. Travis and Lee were immediately impressed by the band's creativity, brutal honesty and drive to create. According to Ramon, signing the contract felt like an “act of complete, mutual trust.” The first single “SWEAT” was released in May 2025. In it, the group talks about the discomfort at the moment of loss of control and thus negotiates the question of power in our own emotional world. As the song progresses, Ramon's expansive voice erupts until he's screaming at the top of his lungs. “SWEAT” is therefore not only reminiscent of legends like The Strokes or Radiohead in terms of vocals, but also through Ramon's charismatic appearance and the skilful interaction of the entire band. But the sextet is not a classic indie rock band. Ethan Ramon, Sam Yuh (keyboard), Austin Parker Jones (electric guitar), Seth Smades (acoustic guitar), Devin Russ (drums) and Cole Bobbitt (bass) are more convincing because of their willingness to experiment: be it feeling musically at home in different genre categories, whether indie rock, pop punk or even funk, or being open to explosive mood changes between loud and quiet. At the same time, they deal with serious topics and spiraling ideas. Brutal honesty is one of the band's distinguishing features: giving space to ingrained, intrusive thoughts before they take over - this is The Sophs' credo. In their short band history, they played shows in their native west of the USA just one week after contacting the label, followed by shows on the east coast; In Europe they won awards in London and Paris in 2025, among others. With their long-awaited debut EP “GOLDSTAR”, The Sophs will once again be exploring Europe in 2026.
