Theme evening about the Loekemeijer method and attachment development in children with autism. With Annemiek Dijksen, attachment specialist.

Every person has a need to bond, to get close to one or more specific people. A child attaches itself to his or her parents and that relationship provides safety and security. This attachment is the basis for good emotional and social development.

Autism and Attachment
Yvonne Loekemeijer, the developer of the Loekemeijer method, will assumes that someone with autism goes through the same developmental stages of attachment as someone who is developing on average. However, this process starts with a delay, is much slower than average and does not continue on its own. Because development does not proceed automatically, attachment development in autism comes to a standstill in low development phases. Behaviors that are often interpreted as strange, complex or inappropriate and the cause thereof can all be explained by the delay and stagnation in attachment development.

With the Loekemeijer method you learn to recognize and properly place behaviors and enable attachment development. Because the attachment process can still be completed, even if your child is already older and now a young person or (young) adult. As your child progresses in his or her attachment development, there is a decrease in stress, fears, obsessive thoughts, rituals, self-mutilation and overstimulation. The well-being and quality of life of your child with autism is significantly improved.

Annemiek Dijksen is 39 years old and has had her own practice for youth and families (Accent op Talent) since 2018. She works a lot with children and parents where autism and/or attachment problems are a theme. Annemiek is an attachment specialist, conducts attachment assessments and also offers attachment guidance in the Twente region.
