This Will Destroy You + Mascara

The Texas post-rock group This Will Destroy You will come to the Subzero club in Prague on July 30.

The masters of cathartic surfaces and crushing crescendos will take the listeners from airy melodies to dense doomgaze walls. An absolute must for fans of Mono, Russian Circles or Jesu.

The group, which was formed in the mid-2000s in San Marcos, Texas, did come out of the classic post-rock scheme of alternating quiet and loud passages, but soon began to bend it to their own image. While many of their genre companions stuck to a welcoming filminess, This Will Destroy You gradually enveloped their sound in heavy layers of fuzz and noise. Tracks like Quiet or the monumental The Mighty Rio Grande (which, among other things, underlined the film Moneyball) became textbook examples of how fragile ambient minimalism can be transformed into absolute guitar devastation in a fraction of a second.

The band definitely confirmed its direction towards darker and heavier spheres on the milestone album Tunnel Blanket from 2011. Under the production supervision of John Congleton, here they exchanged classic melody for heavy doomgaze and claustrophobic sound masses, which definitely earned them respect even from an audience accustomed to extreme metal. Even on the newer recordings from the New Others cycle, the Texans lose none of their ability to build overwhelming tension.

"Check the attenuation of your earplugs and come face to face with a guitar wall that takes no prisoners."

A five-piece heavy shoegaze band will perform as support. Mascara.

Timing:

• 19:30 – doors
• 20:00–20:30 – Mascara
• 20:50–22:20 – This Will Destroy You

Presale ends at midnight before the concert, after which tickets can be purchased on the spot.
