𝐓𝐡𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐪𝐮𝐞 are bringing their second headliner European tour in 2026 to Germany and will play their own show in Berlin for the first time on April 7th.
The avant-garde metal project by Tamás Kátai has only been on stage since 2021, the number of concerts is accordingly manageable - the appearance at SO36 is one of the rare live opportunities for this band.
Thy Catafalque was founded in Makó (Hungary) in 1998 and combines avant-garde and extreme metal with Hungarian folklore, experimental rock aesthetics and distinctive electronics. Many texts are deliberately written in Hungarian; Themes such as landscape, history and time clearly anchor the music in Kátai's origins.
The current album "XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek" (Season of Mist, 2024) follows on from the harder predecessor "Alföld" and expands the sound to include more classical and acoustic instruments.
The first four long-out-of-print albums were released in parallel in 2024 reissued, which further underlines the importance of the project within the Hungarian metal scene. Kátai implements the studio compositions live with a larger collective of guest musicians, most recently including: was seen at European festivals such as Hellfest and Rockstadt Extreme.
𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐑𝐚 from Utrecht is the long-term project of Jason Köhnen (including The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, The Lovecraft Sextet). Originally started as a radical breakcore and extreme electronica vehicle, Bong-Ra has been one of the defining names at the intersection of metal and electronica since the late 1990s.
On the more recent releases “Antediluvian”, “Meditations” and the album “Black Noise” (Debemur Morti / Tartarus), which will be released in 2025, the focus shifts clearly towards industrial and doom metal, without that to give up chaotic, glitchy electronics. Bong-Ra currently performs live as a trio with two guitarists and translates this hybrid into a very direct, metal-oriented set.
