About event
Talk and film evening with Mária Hundža Stratilová and director Michal Gálik dedicated to the expedition to Manásl (8163 m above sea level), the eighth highest mountain in the world. The evening will also include the Košice premiere of the new documentary film Ticho nad 8000. You will learn not only what obstacles need to be overcome on the way to the top of the 8,000 mountain, but also how a documentary film is created in extreme Himalayan conditions.
Mária Hundža Stratilová and the director Michal Gálik are from Košice both body and soul, and therefore they are particularly pleased to present this film to the domestic audience.
Ticho nad 8000 (26 min)
What makes a person willingly risk his own life? And is it possible to live the same way after returning from the summit? Former neurosurgeon Mária Hundža Stratilová leaves her previous life after burning out and seriously injuring her knee and heads to the Himalayas to climb Mount Manáslu. Director Michal Gálik captures not only the expedition itself, but also the personal transformation of the main protagonist, her search for a new life path and the impact of extreme decisions on partner and family relationships.
Mária Hundža Stratilová
She is an ultra runner and a doctor whose love for mountains and movement in nature has accompanied her all her life. After a serious knee injury, she discovered the strength not to give up even in moments when the journey hurts and breaks a person from the inside. It was this experience that ultimately led her to her first eight-thousander – Manásla.
Michal Gálik
Documentary director who traveled to more than 70 countries with a camera in hand. In his work, he mainly deals with global environmental themes, but he is also close to expedition films from remote corners of the world - from the bowels of the Congolese forest to the peaks of the snow-capped Himalayas.
