About event
BERLIN! NOVEMBER 29, SATURDAY:
Timothy Garton Ash: meeting with the author and presentation of the book “EUROPE: The Long Journey from 1945 to the Present”
Timothy Garton Ash is a renowned historian and political scientist, a leading specialist in European studies, professor at Oxford University, awarded the International Charlemagne Prize for his contribution to the unification of Europe. Published in Russian for the first time.
His book “EUROPE: the long journey from 1945 to the present day” is an accurate and vivid overview of the main stages of modern European history: the results of the war - the split into West and East - the course towards unification, the creation and success of the EU - the crises of the 21st century.
Timothy Garton Ash is a unique world-class expert. He devoted his entire life to the study of Europe. He has been a direct witness or active participant in most of the major events of the last fifty years and is closely acquainted with the key figures of world history: Mikhail Gorbachev, Margaret Thatcher, John Paul II, Lech Walesa, Vaclav Havel, Helmut Kohl, George Bush are just a few of the names from this extensive list.
Sunday Times: “An incredibly fascinating book: thoughtful, honest, open, self-critical. The author tells the story of Europe at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries - how, emerging from the hell of war in 1945, it slowly recovered and rebuilt, liberated and united to move closer to the ideal of a Europe “united, free and at peace.” And now he is going through difficult times again.”
So, on November 29 Timothy Garton Ash will be in Berlin, and this is very lucky!
