About event

What doesn't fit into a recipe: memory, gestures and stories hidden in food

What does Central European identity mean to you?
Is it the taste of the soup or the smell of the bread? A family recipe transcribed by several hands? A country you can recognize by smell rather than a map? Something familiar, but difficult to grasp?

The introductory workshop to the Central European School of Imagination project is the first invitation to a common table. It opens up space for thinking together about what connects and shapes us in our region — and where we are moving away from each other.

We are interested in what remains common even at a time when society is increasingly divided. How sharing experiences, stories and symbols can create space for greater closeness, understanding and imagination of the future.

We will start from food as a carrier of memory, relationships and everyday life. From recipes that contain more than just a procedure - family stories, regional traditions and everyday life. From gestures, smells and small rituals that are inherited without anyone having to explain them.

What we will cook together, we will keep under wraps for now. But maybe we can give you a hint...

------------------------------------------------------------------------
It looks humble — like dough.
But inside, a landscape opens up: potatoes, cottage cheese, cabbage, mushrooms, meat and sweet fruit.
Each bite tells a different story.

They don't demand attention, quietly but confidently invite.
To sit down at the table, to slowness, to a conversation that winds between the plates and memories.

They are food for the hands and the memory.
They take shape without big words.
They are sold more by movement than by a recipe — in how the dough closes, how the edge is pressed, how you know that enough is enough.

In their folds, the everyday meets celebration, poverty meets ingenuity, home meets what is constantly transforming.
Perhaps that is why they represent more than just Polish cuisine.
They are the image of Central Europe: layered, shared, changing — and yet intimately familiar.

Just take a bite.
And for a moment, become part of something that was already there a long time ago —
and it keeps reassembling itself.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are looking forward to joint sharing, conversations and the search for images, symbols and associations that we carry in relation to our environment and roots — sometimes consciously, sometimes only intuitively.

The workshop is open to everyone regardless of experience or profession.
Accept the invitation to taste and be a part of the common table for a while.
