About event

German resistance poet Albrecht Haushofer in poetry and music in the context of Theater Na Dam

translator and novel Maarten Asscher translated under the title "Yet Dreams also have a sense of time" a selection from the sonnets that Albrecht Haushofer wrote during the last months of the Second World War in the Berlin Moabit district. With this poetry cycle that became famous as Moabiter Sonetten, Haushofer is accountable for his moral struggle as a diplomat during the years of the Third Reich and regards the decline of German cultural nation. They form the spiritual will of a well -read cosmopolitan, whose world has been reduced to an existence in which the daily and nightly allied bombing rods the apocalyptic end of the war. A world that is ultimately reduced to a Gestapo prisoner where distant dreams and dear memories have to compete against rattling chains, buzzing a mosquito or the silent confrontations with the young Eastern European farmers who serve as guards.

Uitgeverij Hetmoet presents the poems on this evening in a new anthology in their hand -printed and hand -bound singersteek series.

Literary theater collective Festival of Poetry presents this collection with a lecture and music. After an introduction by translator Maarten Asscher, lecture artist Simon Mulder brings a reading performance about the story of Haushofer, in which his poems play a major role. Composer Henry Kelder has won three of the sonnets for soprano, violin and cello for the occasion. A star cast consisting of José Kamminga (soprano), Matthias Naegele (Cello) and Lis Perry (Violin) brings matching music around the lectures and provides the premiere of the three new songs.

Prior to the show, the Jewish war victims of surrounding streets of the Pianola Museum are considered, for whom no Stolpersteine have not yet been laid.
