Today's appearance of the square, situated among today's Rudolfinum buildings, the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and the old UMPRUM buildings, so far corresponds to the concept of locality from the 1970s. However, its full realization occurred only at the end of the 20th century, the twentieth century and not long after it was completed, the first intentions of radically transform it. During the following century, the area was a kind of Petri's bowl. Every major social -political change has signed on it and often directly or indirectly led to plans for its transformation. However, the common denominator of most of them is the failure - the last one is still reminiscent of the concrete housing cover, occupying the center of public space.
