We are very happy to invite you to our first joint workshop in history! Yes, balafon, djembe and doundouny together in one weekend and with two instructors! A joint workshop of two leading Prague players and instructors on two instruments, namely Tomáš Marko from Djembemafia on djembe and bass drums and Tomáš Oplatek from Africká drumming on balafon! Lessons will take place both together and in parallel. The long-awaited project of two friends is finally coming to its final form, and you will not only have a unique chance to learn one complete West African rhythm both on djembe, bass drums and balafon together with a song and the entire arrangement, but also to taste two learning styles and approaches to the music. Everyone will try everything. However, if you have a preference for one of the tools, do not hesitate to write it in the note for the advance payment. The application is valid by paying the deposit to the account. The capacity is limited, so don't hesitate for a minute 🙂

ABOUT THE LECTURERS:

Tomáš Oplatek

I started to focus on African music in 2005. Right after attending the first drumming workshop led by Janos Crecelius, I was completely absorbed by African music and soon after I started working in the band TiDiTaDe. This is where I first met Balafon and my teammate and teacher Kamil Pavelka. Thanks to him, I learned to play the balafon and I still draw from his lessons to this day.

My other balafon teachers include Souleymane Diabate (Ivory Coast), with whom I completed a monthly workshop in Ivory Coast.

I am currently a member of the band Barati Squad, where I play the balafon, djembe and bass drums. I have also been actively playing the piano all my life.
