Tongue Depressor + Raw Deal

The long-delayed Czech concert debut will take place on Sunday, December 1. The American duo Tongue Depressor will come to the club Potrź in Dejvice. It comes from New Haven (Connecticut) and is made up of Henry Birdsey and Zach Rowden, both respected multi-instrumentalists who "cover" their concert tours with numerous variations of instruments. They perform live, e.g. bagpipes and double bass, bells and microtonal organ, violin and fiddle, violin and harmonica, violin and lap steel, lap steel and audio tape manipulation, and the list could probably go on for a while. They are not afraid of numerous collaborations or intensive endless tours.

In 2022, they released an album with the gothic singer-songwriter Jakob Battick on Stoned to Death, and this year they made a statement with a significant collaboration with violist Austin Larkin. In September, they went on a 20-day tour with the black metal "cult" Spectral Voice and now, after more than a year, they are returning to Europe.

Their music, notable mainly for its brooding (and undoubtedly black metal-inspired) atmosphere, moves on the border distinctive subliminal drones with a strong reference to the fathers of minimalism such as Le Monte Young or Tony Conrad. In various instrumental variations, they stretch their instruments to the maximum and in repetitive "stories" test the endurance of the listeners, who usually reward them with catharsis from deep dives, between which there is often no deliberate decompression.

Raw Deal, a psychedelic a free-rock collective, which that evening will subtly release one of a series of long-delayed and thoroughly "promacerated" recordings. The one called Outlaw Day/Beta rider moves in the world of motor crime soundtrack and Sunday enlightened ambience and is released on the newly founded Highland Snakes label.
