The Fandango Jarocho is a community celebration originally from the leeward of Veracruz, Mexico, born in the eighteenth -century maritime and colonial context. It is built around sleep Jarocho, a musical genre that combines indigenous, African and Spanish traditions in both the lyrics and instruments (jaranas, required, harp, leona, marimbol) and in the Zapateada dance, which makes the platform one more instrument.
More than a dance or a concert, the Fandango is a collective party based on the shared jewel Interaction between music, dance, singing, cuisine and public. The platform, at the center, is both heart and altar: the musicians surround it, the dancers sound it, and, with the counterpoint of the Jaranes, a space of cohesion and cultural identity is created where the sacred and the holiday merge.
historically, the Fandango has been linked to popular Catholic festivals (La Candelera, Sant Joan, Sant Joan, Sant Joan, Sant Joan, Sant Joan, Sant Joan, Mayordomías, who combine processions, meals and music. Also to the velorios, officiated to thank or ask miracles, where the music accompanies the nothing. During the colonial period, it also became a space of resistance: enslaved Africans incorporated Catholic elements into their dances, creating the synthesis that defines the current Fandango Jarocho.
