In 2025, Anna Segher's birthday will be 125 years old. Most people know Anna Seghers from “Transit” and “The Seventh Cross”, but it is worth taking a look at her “Women's Stories”.
Because the female figures are among the most impressive in her work: Marie Ziegler, Agathe Schweigert, Marta Emrich and Katharina. Their stories span centuries. They talk about their hunger for life and the longing for happiness, about endangered love, about the courage to be human and stay true to themselves. They are stories of courageous women; of women who refuse to take on the role intended for them. But also from women who do nothing to accept their joyless existence. These women are not heroines, they live an unspectacular, ordinary fate like countless others next to them. In the strength of the weak, they maintain their dignity, even if they are crushed by the political terror of their time.
Inga Bruderek, born in 1981 in Karlsburg/Meck.-Western Pomerania, theater and film actress and speaker, living in Berlin, reads from: “The Excursion of the Dead Girls”, “The Reed”, “Marie Goes to the Meeting” and other stories. “Stories of Women” was published by Aufbau paperback publishing house.
