About event

Gilad Hekselman - guitar (IL)
Will Vinson - sax (UK)
Nate Wood - drums (USA)

The bassless Trio Grande originally emerged from Gilad Hekselman's collaboration with saxophonist Will Vinson and drummer Antonio Sánchez, who each produced an album under Vinson's name in 2018 and as Trio Grande in 2020. The 2020 self-titled album received rave reviews and was celebrated for its musical range from rock to funk to world music, set against a backdrop of deep roots in jazz. Now the trio has reformed with drum virtuoso Nate Wood. With new music and a first single release under their belt, the Trio Grande is going on tour again!

Gilad Hekselman is without question one of the busiest, most creative and most groundbreaking jazz guitarists of recent years. With his unique sound and his unrestricted creativity, he has been delighting jazz fans, fellow musicians and listeners beyond for years. Just a few years after arriving in New York in 2004, the Israeli native has already shared the stage with some of the biggest artists in the New York jazz scene, including Chris Potter, Eric Harland, Mark Turner, Anat Cohen, Ari Hoenig, Esperanza Spalding, Jeff Ballard, Ben Wendel, Gretchen Parlato, Ben Williams, Avishai Cohen, Tigran Hamasyan, Aaron Parks and Becca Stevens, among many others. He has played at all of New York City's major jazz clubs, including the Village Vanguard, the Blue Note, The Jazz Standard, Dizzy's Club and Smalls. He is constantly touring around the world and has played at most major jazz festivals and venues, including Montreux, North Sea, Montreal and SFJazz, to name a few. As a bandleader, Hekselman has released nine critically acclaimed albums, many of which have been featured on the best lists of the NY Times, Downbeat Magazine, Amazon, All About Jazz and many other publications.

Originally from London, alto saxophonist and composer Will Vinson moved to New York City in 1999 and has been a fixture there ever since. Since his arrival, he has performed and/or recorded with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ari Hoenig, Marcus Gilmore, Chris Potter, Kurt Elling, Lage Lund, Aaron Parks and many others. Will is a member of a number of leading ensembles, including pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba's Quartet, Ari Hoenig's Punk Bop and Nonet, Miguel Zenon's Identities Orchestra and his own groups, which, in addition to the musicians mentioned above, also include Shai Maestro and Mike Moreno. Will is a multiple Grammy nominee and has recorded on leading modern jazz labels such as Criss Cross Records.

Nate Wood is primarily a drummer, but also a multi-instrumentalist and studio engineer. Nate became known through the Grammy-nominated group Kneebody, which he co-founded and is one of the most groundbreaking fusion jazz groups of recent years. Nate is one of the most esteemed crossover drummers in the world and throughout his career has played with leading artists beyond genre conventions, including Dave Grohl, Sting, Chaka Khan, Wayne Krantz, Tigran Hamasyan, Donny McCaslin and more. In trade magazines, Nate Wood regularly achieves the highest rankings in the polls of the best drummers.
