TROLIA FARMA is an exhibition about disinformation.
About hoaxes, conspiracies and fake news, which subtly, but all the more radically transform the world in which we live. The hybrid war co-created by troll farms and amplified by social network algorithms affects not only public space, the quality of life, but also directly threatens human lives (disinformation about the COVID pandemic).
In the past, artists had an extraordinary ability to foresee the future and create utopias. Today, they talk less and less about utopias and have often completely resigned to their visionary projects under the burden of everyday life.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the Gentle Revolution in 1989, we decided to present the work of those authors who are not indifferent to the future of the planet, humanity, or the art scene. Who are willing to step out of their comfort zone and talk about social and political topics and participate in the better functioning of this world.
The gallery space is a free interpretation of the workplace of internet trolls who, with the help of artificial intelligence and advanced technology, manipulate public opinion and support not only populist solutions, but also directly create conflicts. The works of art, with a certain amount of exaggeration and irony, playfully reflect, comment on and analyze several aspects of political and social life in Slovakia and the world. And that in a situation where there is a radical destruction of culture by the MKSR itself, which should create space and not close it, limit it.
The concept is loosely linked to the Traveling Gallery project, which, in cooperation with the engaged singer-songwriter Matej Tále, domestic and foreign artists, traveled around festivals, squares, housing estates and schools with the mission of helping people learn to think critically and use reason as a protective vest against harmful information. The troll farm is also the second part of the exhibition premiered under the name Troll Factory at the Stadtische Galerie KUBUS in Hannover, Germany.
Gallery SPACE was established in 1999 in collaboration with Martin Knut under the name Galéria Spacer. It worked at several addresses in the center of Bratislava until 2013, when it ended its activity in a container on Šafka. Today, she returns to architect Oliver Kleinert's glass container after 12 years to actively participate in the current art scene.
The mission of the gallery in the past was to map innovative and experimental forms of art, and today it would like to continue this tradition with an emphasis on engaged forms of domestic and international art. At the same time, it adheres to the traditions of the Traveling Gallery, the Curatorial Studies Institute, the Curatorial Studies and the Kunsthalle Bratislava.
The SPACE Gallery is a "window gallery", so you don't have to enter it, but you can see the works from the street through the window displays, which is why it doesn't even have official opening hours.
Póczos, Dávid Púchovský, Tomáš Rafa, Saténové Ruky, Jozef Suchoža, Ivana Šáteková, Tomasz Wendland, Dušan Zahoranský
A performance by Katarína Balúnova and a concert by Matej Tále took place at the opening of the exhibition.
The project was created without grants in cooperation with the initiatives Nežná and KONTAKT on the Riviera.
We thank the companies HURRICANE, Tema21.sk, SOFTWARE PARTNER, SHAPEN, Veronika Packová and especially Oliver Kleinert for their support.
