📿 Tumar: A Personal Amulet through Upcycling and Memory

Come create your own tumar, a modern Kazakh amulet, filled with warmth, personal history, and small, meaningful things. We will work together at one large table: in a cozy, warm atmosphere we will upcycle old clothing, select fabrics and decorations, and share stories and inspiration.
The workshop facilitator is Adilya, a fashion designer, stylist, and founder of the Berlin studio KIELI. She works at the intersection of culture, personal memory, and visual identity, exploring style as a language of self-expression and creating individual pieces through upcycling, craft, and symbolism.
By the end of the meeting, you will not only have your own amulet but also a sense of belonging to a shared practice of memory, support, and gentle handiwork. No sewing skills are needed; we will show you basic techniques and help at every stage.
This workshop is suitable for those who want to:
- Discover a cultural craft
- Create a personal object of memory
- Feel the therapeutic effect of handiwork
- Spend time in a safe and friendly atmosphere
🔶 What to expect:
- A short introduction to the history and cultural significance of the tumar
- A small intention-setting exercise (a word or phrase for your future amulet)
- Simple techniques for combining materials: textiles, metal elements, tassels, and more
- The practical assembly of your tumar using upcycling and personal items
- A final circle to share impressions and photograph the finished works
🔸 Please bring 1-3 small, meaningful objects with you: buttons, coins, pendants, fabric scraps, and other little items that are dear to you.
