About event

Tomáš Niesner is a Czech guitarist and sound artist moving between fingerstyle guitar, ambient and experimental music. He came from the environment of noise rock and the DIY scene and gradually created a unique solo expression in which he combines sophisticated acoustic guitar technique with elements of Czech folklore, drone, field recordings and fine electronics.

His solo albums Aurora and Bečvou represented a significant artistic shift towards introspective compositions based on atmosphere. Bečvou, inspired by a hundred-kilometer pilgrimage along the polluted Bečva river, connects acoustic guitar, zither, modular synthesizers and environmental recordings into a quietly absorbing narrative. The album was included in The Wire Magazine's Top 100 Albums of 2022 and was recognized by The Quietus magazine, confirming Niesner as one of the most distinctive voices of contemporary Czech experimental music.

In 2025, Niesner released adventus mmxxv, a minimalistic reinterpretation of medieval Eastern European Rorate advent chants. Recorded on four-track cassette tape, the album works with an analog process and intuitive execution, transforming ancient liturgical melodies into spare, resonant guitar compositions. The album, conceived as a twenty-five-part cycle, invites listeners into a space of silence, contemplation and focused attention. The music, devoid of ornament and the excesses of modern production, leaves only the basic melodic core, which makes the compositions sound archaic and surprising at the same time.

In addition to his solo work, he collaborates with guitarist Jakub Šimanský. Their joint albums Tance zneměmé, Všechno dobré and Jako doma reinterpret the tradition of American Primitive through the lens of Central Europe and connect Czech folk sensibilities with improvisation and avant-garde textures into meditative, carefully interwoven compositions. Niesner also forms one half of a duo with chomus player Aldana Duoraan. Their debut album, Plot, released on the Mappa label, explores the links between acoustic guitar, strumming traditions, improvisation and contemporary experimental music.

On his tour in 2026, Tomáš will perform solo acoustic sets aimed at an immersive and intimate listening experience. His concerts oscillate between fragile minimalism and intense focus, creating a concentrated atmosphere suitable for attentive listening clubs, galleries, churches and alternative spaces.

Contributions directly enable artist fees, production and venue maintenance.
