Also, the lecture of the Slavic Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic as part of this year's festival Week of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic will visit the Balkans:
The goal of the Cyril and Methodius mission (9th century) was to make Christianity accessible in an understandable language. Divine service in an already archaic language, following on from Old Slavonic, is also used by Orthodox Romanians in the early modern period. However, Slavic is so foreign to them that even the priests do not understand what they are supposed to do in church. The Reformation spreads the fashion of using one's own language, but the Romanian clergy fear that the Romanian service would threaten their traditional faith. How to get out of this situation?
Lecturer Mgr. Vladislav Knoll, Ph.D., currently deals with the history of Church Slavonic and historical multilingualism. He is the author of the books "Kashubian in language contact" and "Church Slavic in the Late Middle Ages".
