The third lecture of the Slavic Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic as part of this year's festival Week of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic will also look at the Balkans:
Interwar Bulgarian nationalism has become a frequent topic in recent years; contemporary Bulgarian historiography has sought to answer the question of whether or not interwar Bulgaria was a fascist state as it was presented during the socialist era. Far less attention has been paid to the continuity of fascist discourses in post-war exile, and the phenomenon of the contemporary extreme right and its relationship to historical predecessors (and models) remains even more nebulous.
Lecturer Mgr. Jakub Mikulecký, Ph.D., is a Bulgarian scholar and literary historian, specializing in the history of Bulgarian literature of the 20th century. In 2023, he published the book "Between Dissent, Underground and Gray Zone. Unofficial Bulgarian Literature 1944-1989". In addition to original literature, it also deals with the literary life of the Bulgarian exile.
The lecture can be attended in person or listened to online.
