About event
The Temple of the Mother of God before Týn is one of the most important Gothic monuments of Prague. It has long been believed that it is one of the oldest Prague churches. However, its construction began only in the 14th century during the reign of Charles IV. on the site of the older predecessor and was completed a century later. The church rises above the Old Town Square with its characteristic two towers.
inside the temple is a richly decorated Baroque interior with important works of art. The most valuable is the Gothic altar from the 15th century, the tombstone of astronomer Tychon Brahe and a rare plate painting of the Rynec Madonna from the 14th century. It is also worth noting the work of the Master of Tyn Calvary, who created a monumental cross with the characters of the Virgin Mary and St. Jana. The temple is also home to the oldest preserved organ in Prague, dating back to the late 17th century. The walk to the Tyn Temple offers a unique view of the history and art of one of the most important Prague tabernacles. Place is paid to the building of 200 CZK per person.
