About event
Before the National Socialists took place in 1933, around 160,000 Jews lived in Berlin, only 8,000 of them experienced the liberation. There was also a lot of Jewish life in the Prenzlauer Berg district, but this neighborhood was not that of the upper middle -class Jews. For example, butchers, bakers and costume makers lived here. Many of the survivors lived underground for years; A life full of fear, despair and deprivation.
The tour begins at the Immanuelkirche. Here the brave and committed pastor Johannes Schwartzkopf fellow Jewish fellow citizens helped in the Nazi era. The well -known entertainer Hans Rosenthal grew up very nearby, who could survive the time of persecution in a gazebo. On the occasion of his 100th birthday, we are reminiscent of him and other Jewish fates.
