ABOUT:
"Understanding the Experiences of Queer Communities" explores how identity, accessibility, and community-building intersect. This discussion will highlight the role of collectives in helping individuals find identity and solidarity while acknowledging the diverse accessibility needs across communities.
Our main focus is on promoting accessibility, inclusivity, and community empowerment. We will examine systemic challenges and share practical ways to foster cultural change, aiming to create fairer, more inclusive spaces for everyone.
BIO:
✩ Pangea is a queer transfeminist NGO focused on education, advocacy, and community building. We host education sessions, workshops, and other events focused on raising awareness about feminist, queer, and political issues. We strive to create safe and inclusive spaces where women, queer people, and others can come together for collective learning, feminist advocacy, and kinship. We want to create a more just, inclusive, and equitable world through community-building and education. Our education is focused on deconstructing personal and societal paradigms that uphold patriarchal, exploitative, and heteronormative institutions. Pangea is open to all people regardless of their background, sex, gender, age, religion, race, ethnicity, ability, or level of education. Pangea is about paradigm change, education, and the dismantling of patriarchal, exploitative, and colonial ways of knowing and being.
✩ crip kolektiv is an independent group of people connected through living lives with disabilities. the small community started meeting in 2023 and gradually has become the much needed safe space many of us were missing. we share our crip experience with each other and also with the outside world mainly through our instagram (@cripkolektiv) and podcast (CRIPLENÍ systému)
✩ Marghe, a queer, non-binary individual and a member of Pangea. With a background in International Relations, Global Development, and International Cooperation, I focus on post-colonial thought and the intersections between gender and colonialism. Originally from Italy, I am deeply committed to social inclusion, accessible education, and challenging gender stereotypes to create more equitable and inclusive communities.
✩ Bělka (she/her) is a struggling law student trying to balance my time between school, work and all the crochet projects I started. I care deeply about justice, equal rights for everyone and kindness.
✩ Rebeka Veselá is a queer crip activist and a member of the crip kolektiv. She is the creator and host of the podcast CRIPLENÍ systému, where she works to destigmatize disability and highlight key systems of oppression affecting disabled people.
ACCESSIBILITY:
The event will be held in English, and an audio recording with a Czech transcript will be available online afterward. Our staff is happy to assist if you need help accessing the space. The entrance has six steps, and a stair climber is available for wheelchair users. Dogs on a leash are welcome to ensure the safety of exhibited works. Both entry and events are free, though some events may require advance sign-up. We ask visitors to come fragrance-free to accommodate those with chemical sensitivities. The space has 11 fluorescent lights, usually on. If you're light-sensitive, feel free to ask us to adjust the lighting near the windows. There’s a gender-neutral bathroom with two doors, though it is currently inaccessible for wheelchair users. Free sanitary products are provided, and water is available on request. Lemonade is also available for purchase. We offer armchairs and folding chairs for seating. If you need to stim—such as fidgeting or pacing—you’re welcome to do so. Please reach out to our staff for any additional assistance.
