What colorant is in a carrot - or in a tanning cream? In this workshop we want to investigate this question and deal with the naturally occurring dye ß-carotene, which has a wide range of uses due to its properties - from food to cosmetic products.

Together we will extract ß-carotene from various products and then determine it both qualitatively and quantitatively using photometry. We gain insights into how analytical chemistry works and its importance for research, industry and everyday life.

Please wear clothing that can get dirty, as well as long trousers and closed shoes to the workshop. Long hair must be tied back. Lab coats and protective goggles are available.
