About event
Neo-Nazis murdered our fathers - non-fiction book for young people aged 14 and over
The right-wing terrorist murders of the “National Socialist Underground” (NSU) have left deep wounds. The focus of this event is the perspectives and struggles of the relatives.
Gamze Kubaşık and Semiya Şimşek were twenty and fourteen years old when their fathers Mehmet Kubaşık and Enver Şimşek were murdered by the NSU. They have been traveling as contemporary witnesses for many years, reporting on their experiences at schools and in public. Now, together with Christine Werner, they have written a touching and important book for young people aged 14 and over: “Our pain is our strength”.
In the non-fiction book they share their harrowing personal experiences in memory reports, phone calls and chats. They talk about how the murders tore them out of their lives, about the prejudgment by the police and the public disinterest. Above all, they show how they draw enormous strength from their shared pain, which continues to drive them today in the fight against forgetting and for a future without racism and exclusion.
This evening the three authors will present their book. Together we want to discuss why migrant solidarity is so important.
We are also pleased that the “Berlin remembers Munich OEZ” initiative is presenting its plans to develop educational materials for schools. In a short workshop report, they share their first ideas, experiences and next steps.
The event will be moderated by Ali Şirin (No Closing Dortmund)
Registration is not required.
An event by the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung in cooperation with the Studienwerk der Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, the Hellen Panke and the Münzenberg Forum Berlin.
