The real estate broker Hutter travels from Wisborg to Transylvania, where he unknowingly sells the property to the ominous Earl Orlok. When he wakes up with traces of bite on his neck and recognizes Orlok's true identity, the hutter cannot prevent the Earl from introducing the plague and death to Wisborg. Hutter's wife Ellen feels the approaching tragedy and sees the only way to save the city… Its impressiveness is not based on the staged violence or the artificial atmosphere, but on the contrast between the rigidity of the vampire Nosferato and the energy of the young Hutter, and on the contrast to the abandoned Carpathian Castle and the Biedermeier atmosphere of Wisborg.
