About event

Dear supporters of the Common Law Society,

we would like to invite you to the next cafe seminar, which will be held on December 5 from 8:00 p.m. in the Hybernská Campus, in hall B.1. This time our invitation was accepted by Prof. JUDr. Zdeněk Kühn, Ph.D., LL.M., S.J.D., who has been a constitutional judge since December 2023.

The topic will be devoted to the role of constitutional courts in authoritarian systems, where political power is often concentrated in the hands of a narrow elite and decision-making processes are centralized.
We will deal with the question of how constitutional courts function in these systems .

Are they truly independent, or are they more of a tool for legitimizing decisions that would otherwise be considered illegitimate? What influence do they have on the legal culture and the protection of the fundamental rights of citizens in such political regimes? And can they even fulfill their role as protectors of individual rights, or do they become part of the power mechanism that serves to maintain an authoritarian government?

If the topic appeals to you, don't hesitate to come!

We look forward to seeing you,

Your Common Law Society
