About event
☘️ 2nd concert of the summer part of the 7th year of the chamber music festival in the Domus & Hortus Artis 2026
🎵 While Ljatošinský's early work was influenced by late Romanticism and later by Scriabin Expressionism and Modernism, in the 1940s, under the pressure of the regime and wartime events, he returned to a more transparent texture and national motifs. String Quartet No. 4 in D minor, Op. 43, however, is not an ordinary arrangement of folk songs. The composer deconstructs and reharmonizes folk melodies through his complex, chromatic and polyphonic musical language. The result is a deep chamber work with a layered structure and high interpretation demands... Second String Quartet in A major, Op. 68 was composed by Dmitri Shostakovich in September 1944. He wrote the work in a record 19 days during his stay in the city of Ivanovo, northeast of Moscow. The quartet was formed at the end of the Second World War. Although at that time the victory over Nazi Germany was already certain, the atmosphere in the country was still marked by huge losses and tragedies. The work is dedicated to the composer's close friend, the composer Visarion Šebalin. The piece also strongly reflects the popular music of his late friend and critic Ivan Sollertinsky and contains elements inspired by Russian folk music and Jewish motifs.
