About event
We invite you to a literary evening with translator Igor Navrátil on the occasion of the publication of the novel Claude Pujade-Renaud In the shadow of the light about the life of Saint Augustine on Wednesday 29 October. from 18:00 to Košice Artfor on Hlavná ul. 87
The evening is moderated by Ján Gavura.
Miroslav Kolbašský recites the verses.
The subject of French writer Claude Pujade-Renaud's novel In the Shadow of Light is the life, love and death of Saint Augustine (354-430), one of the most popular saints and teachers of the Church. In the work, the author reaches for the proven method of telling "behind the curtain", when she leaves the presentation of the story to Elissa, a character from Augustín's rich biography. The division of attention between a historical figure and a practically unknown woman from the background opens up space for reviving the scenery of antiquity and for capturing the complex transformation of society from paganism to Christianity. In a fragmented but compact composition, Pujade-Renaud manages to capture not only the complex and contradictory path of Augustine to his sainthood, but also to bring out of the shadows into the light the woman who was the object of Augustine's passionate love, the mother of his beloved son and his intimate companion before his definitive conversion and ordination as a priest. The author consciously goes against the flow of history by giving voice and space to women and the feminine world and everything that belongs to it.
We are organizing the event in cooperation with the FACE publishing house.
Entrance is free.
We look forward to seeing you in the bookstore📚
