About event
Figure It Out, Comrade!
SIJELO by Valeria Graziano & Morana Miljanović in the frame of Tanznacht Berlin 2025: Vocal Affairs
Saturday 13.09.2025 / 19:30 / Uferstudios, Hof
Tickets: https://pretix.eu/tanzfabrikberlin/figureitout/
Duration approx. 120 Minutes
The systems develop cracks – an (il)legal exchange around the campfire.
For many, breaking the rules is a necessary act of resistance against humiliation and hopeless regulations. The sijelo “Figure It Out, Comrade!” by Valeria Graziano & Morana Miljanović invites all interested parties to come together around the campfire. Unplugged, the aim is to develop a collaborative storytelling that understands illegality not as a crime, but as a lifeline.
Survival stories collected so far from all over Europe meet Berlin hacks, evasions and acts of quiet cunning. No recordings, no traces – only oral tradition. Potential comrades are invited to add their voices and tell how they – on the street or on screen – outwit control protocols.
“Figure It Out, Comrade!” embraces opacity as collective care. Two hours long, this sijelo offers space to listen, speak and reflect: what might the denial of systemic harm — and another world — look like when the rules of life themselves fail?
Note for all participants:
The event will take place outdoors in good weather and indoors (Uferstudio 5) in case of rain. Please bring warm clothing and/or blankets.
➡️ Valeria Graziano (she/her, they/their/them) is an Associate Professor at the University of Rijeka, working across militant research, popular pedagogy, and collective organizing. Rooted in Italian operaismo, institutional analysis, and transfeminist materialism, her practice explores refusal of work, commoning care, and politicising pleasure. She is a co-initiator of the Transversal Institutional Analysis Network and projects like Pirate Care and Figure It Out, which examine how acts of ingenuity and solidarity challenge systems of control.
➡️ Morana Miljanović (she/her, they/their/them) has worked in strategic asylum litigation at the Croatian Law Centre, researched digital surveillance at Tactical Technology Collective in Berlin, developed workshops, is part of the Pirate Care project, published the novel „Invisible Islands/Islas Invisibiles“ in Mexico in 2020, performed as a dancer at various sites, works as a sailboat captain and teacher, writes poetry, and is involved in grassroots organizing. She has been active in maritime search and rescue since 2019, mainly with Sea Watch and Louise Michel.
