About event
The first composition of this evening is a rarity, the symphonic poem Táborita by Aloise Hnilička – Smetana's contemporary, teacher, choir master and organist from Orlickoust and Chrudim. It premiered in 1862 in Ústí nad Orlicí under the auspices of the local Cecil Music Union. It captures a young man, enthusiastic about the heroism of the Hussite fighters and rushing, despite his mother's pleas, to fight "for the chalice and for his nation". The legacy of Zdenek Lukáš, who was one of the most frequently cited Czech composers of the second half of the last century, is numerous , effective, accessible and very popular. Tres canti studiosorum (Three student chants) set medieval Latin poetry to music. Jan Kučera, who is not only a capable conductor, but also a great pianist, arranger and composer, turns to the past this time. His vocal composition Benedicamus Domino (Bless the Lord) from 2015 is an intimate and ecstatic symphonic treatment of Christmas carols. Through well-known and less well-known ancient songs, the listeners are guided through the Christmas season, from the birth of Jesus Christ to a message of hope for the new year addressed to all people - that there may be good will among them and that there may be peace in their lives.
