About event
The Cimbalom is a typical instrument of Central Eastern Europe. It has a thousand -old history: its origin is in Persia and Arabia, and as early as the 12th century there were similar instruments in Europe, called Psalterium or Salterio. Today's concert cimbaloma with pedals was developed in the 1870s by the Bohemian instrument maker Vencel József Schunda in Pest (today Budapest). He added the damping system, legs and bass strings. Initially, the concert cimbaloma in the area of Austrian-Hungarian monarchy enjoyed great popularity, later throughout Europe: the largest musicians and composers of the era praised its expressiveness, versatility and elegant appearance. To date, the cimbaloma is present in classical, folk music, world music and jazz.
Such an instrument is a rarity in Berlin - but now two are on stage, a historical and a modern one. They are played by two outstanding artists who combine different musical traditions: the Hungarian Enikő Ginzy and the Romanian Cătălin Răducanu. Together they shape an evening full of sound surprises, from the musical treasure of the 17th century to classical and contemporary works to the folklore lengths of the Carpathian Basin and improvised jazz. In addition to Cimbalom-Soli, cimbalom-piano duette and piano soli will also be heard.
Admission is free.
The concert is a cooperation between the Collegium Hungaricum Berlin and the Romanian Cultural Institute Berlin.
The number of seats is limited. The award takes place in the order of the appearance. Please be there in time. Admission from 6:30 p.m..
