About event

An evening of philosophy this time dedicated (not only) to the philosophy of textiles.

The entire afterlife of a nymph, as presented by Georges Didi-Huberman, is a movement of decay and decline. By endless slowing down, in which the pathos of the body is transferred from the figure to the textile. Drapery, initially just an accessory, gains autonomy. It becomes alive, separates from the figure it once covered. This extremely slow movement, the constant fall of the nymph to the ground, is followed by Didi-Huberman as a long film of history, where the textile loses its form, disintegrates, but at the same time persists as a sign and trace.

In the environment of big cities, this fallen drapery is reborn in a different form, like a rag, as a fragment of the world that still carries the memory of a gesture, a fold or a touch. The scrap of the metropolis, the recovered remnant of the fabric in the drain of the Parisian streets, is the last form of the nymph. Knocked to the ground, stripped of its body, but still capable of radiating the energy of the image.

Textiles will therefore become our focus. Textile as a painting. Textile as a time rift. Textile as a medium through which we can read current ideas. A textile that loses the human body.

In the evening, we will be guided by Mgr. art. Ingrid Ondrejičková Soboslayová, ArtD., textile artist and pedagogue, assistant professor working at the Department of Theory and History of Art of the University of Bratislava in Bratislava and a student of philosophy at the Department of Philosophy and Applied Philosophy of the University of Applied Sciences in Trnava. He is devoted to the history and theory of textile culture and production, and primarily examines textile creation, which is located in the boundary between design and art.
