About event
Composed evening with the VFMK publishing house + presentation of Nika Kupyrová's book HXWXD + floorplans opening / Gallery Tapeta
In the evening with the Austrian VFMK, we continue to introduce selected independent foreign publishing houses to the Czech public. With a series of moderated evenings, we create a space for getting to know and connecting local authors, artists and creatives with prestigious foreign publishing platforms.
The event will include the presentation of Nika Kupyrová's book, which also created another site-specific installation for the Wallpaper Gallery.
🔹Verlag für moderne Kunst is one of the most important Viennese hubs of contemporary art. In cooperation with artists, collectors, museums and galleries, they create carefully edited books with sophisticated design, which they often produce together with exhibitions. This ensures a comprehensive service within the ecosystem of contemporary art.
🔹Nika Kupyrova was born in Kyiv. She completed her bachelor's degree in art at the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland and her master's degree in the TransArts studio at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. She is an interdisciplinary artist, lives and works in Vienna and Prague, where she actively exhibits.
Kupyrova draws themes from literature and digital culture and transforms them into large-scale multimedia installations that represent exhibition spaces as parallel worlds that the viewer can explore. HXWXD is her first monograph, which non-chronologically and playfully returns to four separate exhibitions in the last six years. The author is aware of the absurdity of publishing a book in the age of digital media and asks questions about sculpture and its photographic reproduction, 2D and 3D, and the malleable border between digital and analog.
The evening is supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum.
The ArtMap activity is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, the State Fund of Culture, Hl. m. Prague and the City of Prague 1.
