About event
Jana Beňová talks about books with translator Silvia Slaničková. They will focus on Lídia Jorge's Unforgettable book, whose theme is the clove revolution in Portugal (1974) and the fate of its protagonists. In some aspects, it can be compared to the Gentle Revolution and its main actors.
About the book Unforgettable
Reporter Ana Maria receives an offer to interrupt her career as a war correspondent, return to her native country and collect material for a documentary that brings the Clove Revolution closer to an exceptional day in Portuguese history. With two former classmates from the faculty, he visits the actors and eyewitnesses of this bloodless coup, discovers their most beautiful memories, but also the bitter disappointments and disillusionments brought by time. She penetrates the myths of the collective past, reveals how complex and difficult the path to democracy can be, and at the same time undertakes a very personal journey back to her father and the roots she rejected.
Silvia Slaničková
She comes from from Bratislava. At the Faculty of Philosophy of the Comenius University, she studied the combination of English language and culture - Portuguese language and culture. She completed her doctoral studies at the Department of Romance Studies by defending her dissertation entitled Women's Literature after the Klinček Revolution. Since 2020, he has been teaching at the Portuguese Language Section of the Department of Romance Studies and is also engaged in artistic translation. It mainly deals with Lusophone literature and history.
